Sanitary Engineering Specification
Plumbers Ghana designs and installs code-compliant sanitary, soil and waste engineering for hotels, hospitals, embassies and commercial buildings across Accra — fixtures, branch and stack pipework, venting and drainage to GS 1207:2018, handed over in writing.
Sanitary engineering is the part of a building most people never see and cannot afford to fail — the soil, waste and vent system that carries foul water away cleanly, keeps blockages and sewer gas out of occupied space, and has to perform for the working life of the facility. Plumbers Ghana designs and installs code-compliant sanitary, soil and waste systems for hotels, hospitals, embassies, offices and commercial buildings across Accra, and has done. What Sanitary Engineering Covers
Ordinary plumbing connects fixtures; sanitary engineering designs the system behind them. On a building of any scale the soil, waste and vent layout has to be sized to the fixture load, laid out so traps stay sealed, and built with the access points that keep it maintainable. That is design-and-document work, not fit-and-forget — and it is what an institutional client is really commissioning.
Soil & Waste Stacks
Vertical stacks sized to the fixture load of the floors they serve, so WCs, basins and sinks discharge without the system backing up or losing trap seals.
Branch Pipework & Fixtures
WCs, basins, sinks, urinals and showers connected on correctly-fallen branches, in the specified materials, with the trap seals and access points the code requires.
Venting
The vent system that lets stacks breathe and keeps trap seals intact — the difference between a building that smells and one that does not. Designed, not improvised.
Code-Compliant Drainage
Floor drains, gully traps and the below-ground connection to the sewer or septic/soakaway, with the falls and rodding access that keep the system clearable for its whole life.
How We Engineer & Document It
| Phase | What we do |
|---|---|
| Survey & specification | Read the spec/drawings, confirm fixture schedule and loads |
| Soil, waste & vent design | Size stacks, lay out vents, set falls and access points to GS 1207:2018 |
| Installation | Fixtures and soil/waste/vent pipework in specified materials, documented |
| Test & commission | Flow, fall, trap-seal and leak testing; written record |
| Handover | Written as-built record + the maintenance the system needs |
What It Costs — Honestly
Sanitary engineering is priced on the building, never off a list. The cost depends on the fixture count, the number of floors and stacks, the specified materials, and the site — so we quote from the specification and a site survey, never a flat figure pulled from the air. We give you a written quotation against the spec before work starts. Where a job touches an existing septic or soakaway, tanker emptying (indicatively GH₵400–800 by tank size) is a separate, published line — everything else is quoted on survey.
Commercial & Institutional Cover
This is a commercial discipline — hotels, hospitals, embassies, offices, schools and multi-tenant buildings. A named member of our team owns each commission from survey to written handover, and we can hold a planned maintenance agreement on the installed system afterwards. For a building in occupation we also run emergency cover: if a stack blocks or a soil pipe fails in a live facility, we respond same-day across Greater Accra — call +233 23 063 0005.
Standards & Trust
- Designed and built to the Ghana Building Code (GS 1207:2018), which covers plumbing and drainage
- Trade-certified plumbers (NVTI-certified technicians)

Frequently Asked Questions
What does sanitary engineering cover that ordinary plumbing does not? The soil, waste and vent side of a building — how foul water is collected, carried away without blockage or smell, and vented so trap seals hold. On a hotel, hospital, embassy or office that has to be designed: stacks sized to the load, vents laid out, falls and access engineered. That design-and-document discipline is sanitary engineering.
Which standard do you build to? The Ghana Building Code, GS 1207:2018, which covers plumbing and drainage, built by NVTI-certified technicians. We do not invent a standard — GS 1207:2018 is the real, current Ghana reference.
Do you provide a written handover? Yes — a written as-built record at handover: what was installed, the materials, the access points, the test results, and the maintenance the system needs.
Can you work to an architect or consulting engineer’s drawings? Yes — most institutional work is built to the project architect or M&E consultant’s spec. We read it, raise clashes before installation, and build to it; where there is no drawing we design the layout to GS 1207:2018.
